The Area of the Old Town
Ciutat Vella (old town in Catalan) is a district composed of 4 neighborhoods. It is bordered by the Mediterranean Sea in the southernmost part of the city and by Plaza Catalunya, Plaza Universidad and Plaza Urquinaona to the north. Ciutat Vella in addition to being an architectural showcase with an impressive historical and cultural heritage, is one of the main areas of restaurants and drinking venues of the city of Barcelona. There are plenty alternative shops with their bohemian atmosphere that together with the rich cultural offer make the district of Ciutat Vella one of the main attractions of Barcelona.
The district corresponding to the old town is divided into four neighborhoods. On one side there is Raval, a neighborhood with a rich multicultural environment and a strong commitment in cultural spaces. You also have the Gothic Quarter with its special architecture and its wonderful shopping streets. Third one is the district of Sant Pere, Santa Caterina i la Ribera, a neighborhood where Borne is located – a very bohemian part of the neighborhood, and then there is Barceloneta, city beach area where you will find the best seafood restaurants in Barcelona.
