The Area of Poblenou
The Poblenou district (Pueblo Nuevo) and the neighborhoods that comprise it, have undergone an intense transformation in recent years. The old industrial district has gone on to become one of the main hotspots in Barcelona.
Towards the end of the 19th century, the area was known as the “Manchester of Catalonia”, due to its high concentration of factories and industries. In fact, at that time Poblenou had the highest industrial density in Catalonia. Over time, the factories gradually moved to the outskirts of the city and the district went through a period of neglect. It was not until the development of projects such as the Olympic Village and more recently, the 22 @ District, when investments returned to the neighborhood. Today, modern office buildings and hotels coexist with long-standing residential areas and old industrial structures that have been restored. It is a district of intense cultural, social and leisure life, with many spaces to visit.
