Poble Sec Property for Sale

Poble Sec Property for Sale – The Not So Dry Village in Barcelona!

Poble Sec Property for salePoble Sec, which means “Dry Village” in Catalan is one of Barcelona’s neighbourhoods which has seen more change than others. Geographically Poble Sec is located between the park of Montjuic and the wide avenue called Parallel, sometimes dubbed the Broadway of Barcelona for abundance of theatres there. In recent years the neighbourhood has been enjoying a tremendous increase in caché and the appearance of michelin starred restuarants at the hands of Adriá Ferra and his brother have added a chic touch that the neighbourhood may not have needed but certainly benefits from. Clients of ours looking for Poble Sec propety for sale tend to favour the refurbished apartment projects we specialise in and which are often more keenly priced in Poble Sec than other Barcelona real estate.

The origins of Poble Sec were much more humble. Barcelona was a walled city and those without the wealth to live within those walls often ended up in Poble Sec. There was no water supply to the area until the late 19th century when a fountain was added and as a result the area was named “Dry Village”.

Well connected to the rest of the city yet somehow not overrrun by the denser tourism of nearby Sant Antoni or El Raval, Poble Sec offers a quiter refuge from the bustle of Barcelona. Leafy tree lined streets and the typical Barcelona buildings provide shade from the sun and respite from the crowds. It seems incredible that in only a few short steps from the ultra busy Parallel we find ourselves in the quiet and calm of these streets. We have seen wondeful projects in Poble Sec like the refurbished luxury apartments in Elkano, the refurbished 19th century building in Margarit and our renovated modernist building in Murrillo.

Poble Sec has excellent transport links to the rest of the city and the world. A short walk to Plaza de España gives you the Aerobus with buses every 5 minutes to the airport. There are three metro stations, Parallel, Poble Sec and Espanya. There is also the 758 metre long Funicular de Monjuic which departs from Parallel station.
