El Raval Real Estate
El Raval is one of the most interesting and also perhaps contentious areas of Barcelona. In recent years there has been a sharp increase in buyers of El Raval real estate. Historically El Raval made up the second phase of the city’s growth. It was densely populated up until the walls of the city were demolished to give way to the development of the Eixample district.
El Raval was the subject of huge investment in 1988 when the government began refurbishing large parts of Barcelona. From then on this area, which had been regrded as generally unsafe, began a new lease of life. There are still some areas of El Raval that are not as safe as they should be, but in general, like so many large urban areas in other parts of the world, El Raval has been the subject of increasing interest and has become known as a culturally rich and diverse neighbourhood. There is no question that El Raval boasts a personality all of its own. El Raval real estate has been the focus of both large and small investors and the last two years has seen some impressive refurbishment projects with wonderful urban architecture.
El Raval is so centrally located that you can literally walk to the beach or to the main central shopping areas such as Passeig de Gràcia. It is located between the two main and most popular food markets in Barcelona, La Boqueria in Las Ramblas and the Mercat de Sant Antoni. The typical El Raval real estate is an apartment with stone, mosaic floors, stone, often rough hewn walls. It is not always easy to find buildings with lifts or with car parking so if you do get one, buy it!
