Eixample Izquierdo Property for Sale
The Ensanche Izquierdo, or in Catalan, “Eixample Esquerra” literally means the left part of the “Ensanche”, which means “Expanse” or “Extension”. This is the most densely populated part of Barcelona with around 35 thousand people per square kilometre. This along with the central, well planned location means Eixample Izquierdo property is possibly the most sought after in the city after or along with property in Zona Alta or Pedralbes.
The Eixample is the result of careful city planning carried out in the mid 19th Century to allow a more planned and ordered city to appear from the previous medieval urban sprawl. The need for a new area in which to expand from the old city down by the sea was becoming more and necessary. There was some contention in the awarding of the project given that the plan approved by the Barcelona town hall was given to the architect Rovira i Trias who wished for a more segreated city where the borgeous would be more comfortable and not have to mix with the lower classes. However the central government in Madrid rejected this idea and ordered that the grid system of the Eixample put forward by ldefonso Cerdá be put in place.
The left side of the Eixample is the area to the left of Passeig de Gràcia. Passeig de Gràcia is like the backbone of the Eixample proper so everything to the left is Eixample Izquierdo and everything to the right Eixample Derecho, or right side of Eixample. Eixample Izquierdo was built after Eixample Derecho and is the area between Diagonal at the top, Passeig de Gràcia and Gran Via to the bottom. Plaza Catalunya is within Eixample Izquierda, to the bottom right corner of the area.
Eixample Izquirdo extends to the left right up to Plaza de España, where the Mont Juic entrance to the Fira Exhibition area, the magic fountains and the palace lie.
For people looking to buy Eixample Izquierdo property there is an abundant choice. Prices can vary quite a lot given the huge variety of sizes, types and also general condition of propety. It is common to find apartments for 3000 Euros/ m2 next to buildings where the prices are closer to 5,500 Euros / m2. So much for location, location, location!
Eixample Izquierdo properties tend to be these gloriously high ceilinged properties many with mosaic flooring and floor to ceiling wooden shutters. Of course there are many that need major refurbishment but it is well worth it and not as expensive as you would expect.
